The History Of Valentine’s Day

Antique_Valentine_1909_01Cupid has posted the History Of Valentine’s Day video from the History Channel on his web site to help spread the word on origins of the holiday.

He says that this is the most accurate video he has found that covers the entire history from ancient Greek Mythology to the origination of the Valentine’s Card.

You are welcome to connect to Cupid’s History of Valentine’s Day page to watch the video.

Cupid is Diverting a Shipment of Arrows to Santa’s Village

cupids-arrow-red-love-heartAs you know, Cupid has been staying up at Santa’s Village to work with DES on his webpage and handbook.  He is having one of his arrow shipments diverted to Santa’s Village so that he can stay a few days longer and doesn’t have to travel back to his home in Paris to reload for the upcoming holiday.

We will be storing the shipment in the warehouse for him, so please do not mess with any of the boxes that are marked with cupid’s heart insignia.

Days are Getting Longer at the Pole

sunset-324x205December 21, 2012 did not mark the end of the world as most would have had you thinking, but it did mark the Winter Solstice.  This is the shortest day of the year for earth’s northern hemisphere, but it also marks the time when the days start to get longer.

In Reykjavik, Iceland, the sunrise was at 11:23 a.m. and the sunset was at 3:30 p.m.; whereas, in Sydney, Australia, the sunrise was at 5:41 am with the sunset at 8:06 pm.

If you would like to learn a lot more about the Winter Solstice, you can visit Winter Solstice 2012: Myths and facts about the shortest day of the year by Justin Grieser.  This website explains in detail about the shortest day of the year for the northern hemisphere.

Frosty Adds Some Internet Resources about Snow

snowDid you ever wonder where snow comes from?  What about an answer to the question, “Are there really no 2 snowflakes the same?”  Well, Frosty came down to the Department of Elfland Security to work on his webpage a little bit and we have found a few great Internet resources to help answer these questions.

He has added 3 new resources to his Internet Resources Page:

National Snow and Ice Data Center
The National Snow and Ice Data Center website contains information and data collected about snow and ice from all over the world.

SnowCrystals.com
A comprehensive website showing pictures and different explanations about snowflakes.

NOHRSC
The National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center provides comprehensive snow observations, analyses, data sets and map products for the Nation.

You can find links to these resources on Frosty’s Internet Resource page.
